The Chancellor works closely with the Bishop and the Vicar General in the governance and pastoral running of the Diocese. The primary purpose of the Chancellor is to serve the Bishop in matters of church administration. It is responsible for gathering information for the Official Catholic Directory and the annual Rome Report. The Chancellor is responsible for sacramental records and the Diocesan Archives. The Diocesan Archives are directly cared for by the Archivist.
